See, unlike, say, Regina or Rumple, Hook is trying to change for himself. With shipper goggles on, I’m sure Emma is a factor in this, subconsciously anyway, but the point is that, by his own volition, he realized he’s lost sight of himself. No Belle or Neal pushing him to change, no Henry asking him to be better—himself, understanding the price of revenge and being unwilling to continue to pay it.

The reason why Regina and Rumple flip flopped so much this year was because they were trying to change for others, but the second those people were (inevitably) taken from them, it backfired, and they relapsed.

I’m not saying that Hook’s on the straight and narrow from now on, but I have a lot of hope for him as a character, just for being so self-aware where others are not. Anyway.

Отличительное качество Крюка от остальных злодеев в том, что он старается измениться сам, не ради кого-то, но ради себя. Он осознаёт разрушительные последствия мести и отказывается от неё ради самого себя. Ради лучшей версии себя. И это очень важно. Потому что как только нет рядом Генри, Регина начинает забывать смысл быть хорошим человеком. Когда нет рядом Бэлль, Румпель с лёгкостью возвращается к своему тёмному началу. Они теряют себя без них.
